On March 1st, 1973, we opened our doors doing business as Georgetown Health Foods. We leased 1,500 square feet in a new shopping center just north of 38th Street on Georgetown Road. In the beginning, my mother and I ran the business, with my father joining us in April 1974 after retiring from Detroit Diesel Allison. In 1978, we moved to a 5,000 square foot space where we added a lunch counter, bulk bins, a classroom space, and more products. As we continued to grow, I decided in 1996 we should acquire our own location and build a larger store. We proudly opened our 10,000 square foot store on November 11, 1997, changing our name to Georgetown Market.
On Saturday, November 11th, we will celebrate our 50 years of service to our community. Our celebration commences three weeks prior, so be sure to follow us on social media, check our website, and ensure you are on our email list to learn about all the special events and happenings, including some great sale prices. Rumor has it we will have some 50% off sales, free cake, vendor demos and more! Be sure to stop in and enter our $250 shopping spree drawing.
We are proud of our family business. We are honored to be a vital part of our community, serving the health needs of so many for five decades. Our family is grateful to our customers and our devoted staff, past and present. How we do business has changed drastically since 1973, but thanks to 3rd generation ownership under the leadership of my son, Andrew, we will continue to provide the best service and products for hopefully many years to come.
We deeply appreciate your patronage. Please join me, my sons, Andrew and Brett, along with our staff in celebrating our 50th anniversary. I would love to shake your hand or share a hug on Saturday, November 11th. It’s going to be a great celebration!
