Flush in the new year with castor oil. Some experts believe castor oil is the most powerful gut cleanse you can safely do at home. One purge may clear decades of buildup, reset digestion, and help you feel lighter and sharper within hours. When you are chronically constipated or irregular, waste sits longer in your colon than it should.
The secret weapon found in castor oil is ricinoleic acid. This is an unusual fatty acid that comprises 85-95% of castor oil. It binds to EP3 receptors in your intestines, triggering powerful contractions. As a result, you may get a complete purging of your colon in two to six hours. Not a single medication matches its mechanism.
Most laxatives just pull water into the gut or irritate the lining. Castor oil can program your intestines to empty themselves in a relatively quick fashion, resetting the elimination system.
According to Patrick Sullivan, founder of Jigsaw Health in Arizona, the best way to use castor oil to cleanse the body is to follow his three day protocol.
Day One: Prep
Eat light food. No sugar, caffeine, or alcohol. Hydrate well.
Day Two: Flush
Mix two to four tablespoons of organic castor oil in warm ginger tea. Expect four to six hours of intense elimination. Take the oil on an empty stomach upon waking. No food for several hours, only warm fluids. Use heat on your belly to ease cramps.
Day Three: Recovery
Drink broths, take a quality probiotic, eat mineral-rich foods such as vegetable soup, bone broth, fermented foods (plain yogurt, sauerkraut, kefir), and drink coconut water and/or green juices. This will help rebuild intestinal flora.
Be aware of normal cleansing symptoms such as headaches, nausea and fatigue. The castor oil cleanse should be avoided if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, if you have an intestinal blockage or taking major medications such as blood thinners, birth control, or diabetes drugs.
The castor oil protocol is best done occasionally, not habitually. Please speak with one of our Natural Living staff associates to select the best castor oil product or to answer any questions you may have. Contact me via email at rick@georgetownmarket.com with any questions.
