You Are What You Eat – Why Sourcing Locally Matters

If you have watched the widely popular show Portlandia, you may remember a sketch about a couple bombarding their waitress with questions about the chicken on the menu. After answering the probing about diet, living conditions and even happiness of the chicken, the waitress retrieves a profile of Colin, the chicken, for them to look over. This absurd sketch may be unrealistic, but it does speak to the important trend to more local and organic foods. At the end of the sketch the two get up from the table to go check out the farm that Colin was raised on and make sure that it is everything the waitress claimed before ordering.

This mentality of wanting to know where our food comes from is growing, as we have in the past distanced ourselves from the source what we eat. This change in trends may be due to health issues many have encountered due to the strange ingredients in food today. So many packaged goods come with high levels of fructose corn syrup and preservatives and fruits and vegetables are filled with growth hormones and pesticides that you have to wonder what you are actually consuming. So wanting to have more organic and locally grown foods is a completely understandable. That’s why we partner with local vendors to get the best fresh foods and products to you.
